All the Presidents' Gardens with Marta McDowell

Join us for All the Presidents' Gardens by Marta McDowell which explores the history of the White House through its' grounds. Learn about Lincoln's goats, Ike's putting green and Kennedy's roses - all of which have graced the eighteen acres surrounding the executive mansion. From George Washington's seed collecting to Michelle Obama's vegetable garden, the story of the Presidents' gardens is also a story of our country.

Marta McDowell teaches landscape history and horticulture at The New York Botanical Garden, where she studied landscape design. Her garden is included in the Smithsonian's Archive of American Gardens and in 2018 she will be gardener-in-residence at the Emily Dickinson Museum in Amherst. Her particular interest is in authors and their gardens, the connection between the pen and the trowel, and she has written a number of books on the subject. All The Presidents' Gardens made the New York Times bestseller list in 2015 and won an American Horticultural Society book award.

The program is Saturday, April 7th, 2:00 p.m. at the Hollis-Brookline High School. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased online at The price will be $15 at the door.
